The University of Sussex was founded in the 1960s close to Brighton in south England. A leading higher education institution, it conducts research in a wide range of fields. The school was one of the first of the new wave of universities in the United Kingdom to receive a Royal Charter in 1961, maintaining one of the most attractive campuses in the country.

In 1993, the campus’ heart buildings, designed by Sir Basil Spence, were listed as listed buildings. Twelve schools and research groups are maintained by the university.
