Overview

Borough Polytechnic Institute was founded in South London in 1892 and became a Regional College of Technology in 1956. London South Bank University (LSBU) can trace its roots to that institution. To form the Polytechnic of the South Bank, the Polytechnic merged with the Brixton School of Building, the National College of Heating, Ventilating, Refrigeration, and Fan Engineering, and the City of Westminster College in 1970. It was given the right to confer research degrees in 1990 after the Polytechnic was renamed South Bank Polytechnic in 1987. South West London College and Central Catering College were merged in 1992, and South Bank University was awarded university status. It was officially named South Bank University on September 1, 2003. The Complete University Guide ranked the university 87 in its “University League Table 2020”.

There are excellent academic, recreational, and residential facilities on the LSBU campus, which is located in the London city center. Among the laboratories are forensic labs, spatial analysis and informatics labs, psychology labs, Acoustics Lab, the Digital Architecture Robotics Lab, a Pub Lab, a Chemical Lab, interviewing rooms, a Physiology Suite, and Therapeutic Radiography VERT Lab. On campus accommodation options include the Student Centre, Perry Library, Clarence Centre, and Keyworth Event Theatre. It offers a wide variety of convenient and comfortable options for on-campus living. Among the facilities offered by the Academy of Sports are a fitness suite, a training zone, a weight room, a dance studio, and a sports hall for playing football, netball, basketball, cricket, badminton, table tennis, and volleyball. In East London, there is also a nursing campus for the university.

At LSBU, a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and apprenticeships are offered in economics, architecture, business, arts, education, engineering, media, law, nursing, design, psychology, science, tourism, hospitality, marketing, finance, and accounting. There are more than 18,000 students at the university, including 2,000 foreign students who come from more than 130 countries.A variety of international universities collaborate with the university, facilitating excellent exchange and study abroad programs for students. Anne Milton is the Lord Commissioner of HM Treasury. Frank Brake co-founded Brake Bros Frozen Foods with his brother. London Ambulance Service’s Head of Patient Experience, Gary Bassett, is responsible for patient experience. M&M Asset Management’s Kevin McGrath is a property investor. Peter Rees served as the City of London’s Chief Planning Officer. LSBU is also associated with many other distinguished individuals.

Entry Requirement

The entry requirements for each course are specific. In addition, students who apply for the admission need to meet the following general admission requirements:
  • The minimum IELTS/TOEFL score required for undergraduate courses is at least 6.0/80, respectively. Meanwhile, an overall minimum IELTS/TOEFL score for postgraduate programs is 6.5/90.
  • A minimum average of 55-65% in 12th standard (for undergraduate)
  • Honors Degree with a minimum average of 55-65% or higher (for postgraduate)

Tution Fees

International students are expected to have sufficient funds to maintain themselves and pay their tuition fees in line with the Home Office Tier 4 policy requirements. Student fees and financial support for international students differ considerably from that offered to students defined as Home or EU.

Scholarship

There is a wide range of scholarships and discounts for international students at London South Bank University, including nationality scholarships, fee discounts for alums and a 5% discount for early payment of tuition fees.
