Overview
Founded in 1843, the Coventry College of Design served as the forerunner for Coventry University. After amalgamating with Lanchester College of Technology and Rugby College of Engineering Technology, it was renamed Coventry College of Art. In 1992, Coventry University was established by merging Lanchester Polytechnic and Coventry Polytechnic. As a symbol of Coventry’s rebuilding after the Second World War, the University’s logo is a Phoenix, a mythical bird.
In addition to access to global opportunities, Coventry’s worldwide network of collaborators in academia and industry ensures that its 50,000 learners in different countries have the best possible job prospects. Internationally, the university excels in areas such as health, peacebuilding, agroecology, and engineering and design, particularly in the automotive industry.
As an innovative and ambitious university, they make a tangible impact on society. The University of Coventry has already made a valuable contribution to a number of global challenges, but it wants to expand its research staff to 2,000 by 2021 and focus on fields where its experts can have a dominant influence.
A number of Coventry’s research areas have been rated ‘world leading’ and ‘internationally excellent’ in the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF), with the allied health professions part of the work ranking joint 5th and the art and design part ranked either four or three stars.
