Overview

The University of Greenwich was established in 1890 as Woolwich Polytechnic. The university is located both in London and Kent, UK. In the UK government’s Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2019, received a silver rating. Times Higher Education World Rankings (2022) place it between 601 and 800 among global universities.

According to the 2019 World University Rankings, Greenwich University is among the top 8% of universities worldwide. Earlier that year, Greenwich was recognized as a top European university for teaching excellence by THE. In accordance with the Times and Sunday Times, it is now ranked 89th. The university had 17,430 students enrolled in different courses in 2019. 76% of these students were undergraduates, while 24% were postgraduates. Among the students studying full-time, 14,183 were full-time students, and 4,761 were part-time students. Approximately 71% of residing students were from the UK, 8% from Europe, and 14% were international students. The university currently has 280 Indian students studying there for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.

For educational purposes, three campuses have been established: two in London and one in Medway, Kent. Greenwich Old Royal Naval College, located on the banks of the Thames, serves as the main campus for the university. These campuses are so well-known for their breathtaking scenery that they have appeared in several films and television shows, including Pirates of the Caribbean, Skyfall, and The Crown. The institution offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and introductory courses for both full-time and part-time students. According to the Complete University Guide 2021, the University of Greenwich’s MBA (business, management, and marketing) programs are in the top three in all of London.

Doing one’s homework, especially in regard to lodging, prior to relocating is crucial. There are 2,400 beds in residence halls across Greenwich’s three campuses. Wi-Fi and wired Internet are available in every room and can be accessed from anywhere in the building. Free membership to the campus gym is available to both fitness enthusiasts and couch potatoes. There are numerous bus lines that travel between the campuses, and one of them is a free shuttle service. Security personnel on campus maintain a constant vigil. Students who have excelled academically or in extracurricular may be eligible for awards such as scholarships and bursaries. Students who are legally resident in the European Union are eligible for a one-year tuition waiver through the EU Bursary program at the University of Greenwich. In addition, international students who have been extended an offer to study at this institution and who can show proof of financial need may be eligible for a tuition reduction of up to £3,000 for the first academic year.     The hours of operation during the academic year are as follows: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight; Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to midnight; and during finals week, Monday through Friday, 24 hours a day. Books can be checked out and returned with little effort thanks to a reservation system that can be accessed online and self-service kiosks.

Entry Requirement

International Year Zero
  • IELTS 5.5 with each component of 5.5 or above required. Five GCSE’s at Grades A-C.
International First Year
  • In addition to 80 UCAS points, IELTS 5.5 (with no less than 5.5 in each component) is required.
International Pre-Masters
  • A qualifying degree must be earned by the end of the second term
  • An undergraduate degree with a minimum grade of 3rd class honors is required.
  • In IELTS, 5.5 is needed (all components must be at least 5.5)
